Mt. Pleasant man pleads guilty to police altercation, burglary charges
A Mt. Pleasant man was sentenced to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty this week to charges in two separate cases related to an incident with police last year and an unrelated burglary of a home a year earlier.
Daniel Sebulsky Jr., 37, pleaded guilty in connection with an incident last April 2, in which authorities said he assaulted a police officer during a traffic stop in East Huntingdon.
According to court records, a state police trooper contended his knee was bumped as Sebulsky attempted to drive off after the stop in which police suspected he was driving drunk and struck an embankment.
Westmoreland County prosecutors dismissed one count of aggravated assault, the most serious offense filed against Sebulsky, in connection with the incident. He pleaded guilty to simple assault, reckless endangerment and multiple counts of child endangerment, furnishing alcohol to minors and other offenses.
Police said three juveniles were in the car with Sebulsky at the time of the traffic stop and that bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle.
In a separate incident, Sebulsky pleaded guilty to a burglary in June 2020 of a Mt. Pleasant home. He was sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears to serve 2-to-4 years in prison for the burglary and a concurrent term of 6-to-24 months in prison for the East Huntingdon incident with police.
As part of the shorter sentence, the judge also ordered he complete 100 hours of community service.
Sebulsky pleaded guilty last June to charges of fleeing police, reckless endangerment, drunk driving and other offenses in connection with an incident in 2019 in which authorities said he led police on a 12.5-mile high speed chase through the East Huntingdon and Mt. Pleasant areas.
Police said Sebulsky drove more than 100 mph and through a corn field as he attempted to evade police before he arrived at home and fled on foot. In that case he was sentenced to serve 11 1/2-to-23 months in jail.
