A Mt. Pleasant Borough man was ordered to serve five years on probation after he pleaded guilty Wednesday to the sexual assault of a young girl.

Lawrence L. Lewis Jr., 75, was charged last year in connection allegations leveled by a 10-year-old girl who claimed she was molested multiple times January 2015. According to court records, she claimed Lewis improperly touched her in a garage after he bribed her with candy.

Lewis, who has been free on an unsecured $100,000 bond, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a child. Felony charges of corruption of minors and child endangerment were dismissed as part of the plea bargain.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears rejected Lewis’ initial attempt to plead no contest to the charge and said that despite the imposition of a probation term he could face potential jail time for any violation of the terms of his supervision.

“If you violate it I can revoke your probation and sentence you to up to five years in prison,” Mears said.

Lewis faces a lifetime requirement to register as a convicted sex offender, according to prosecutors.
