A Mt. Pleasant woman became a victim of an online secret shopper scam, according to state police. Troopers said the unidentified 46-year-old woman signed up online to be a secret shopper at Walmart.

An unknown person sent her instructions along with a check for $4,000, which she cashed at her bank. She was told to buy four Walmart money orders for $1,000 each and send them through FedEx priority overnight.

After the woman sent the money orders, the woman’s bank contacted her and said the check she had cashed was fraudulent. The woman returned to her bank and reimbursed the bank for the $4,000, state police said.
