Municipal authority to build new $5.5M office, garage for sewer operation in New Stanton
Work will soon begin on a new office and garage facility to house the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County’s growing sewer operation.
The authority this week awarded nearly $5.5 million in construction contracts for the project, to be built on its campus off Park and Pool roads in New Stanton.
Office staff and road crews assigned to sewer operations are now located in several locations, including the former Hempfield Municipal Authority headquarters, said Brian Hohman, MAWC business manager. The county agency bought Hempfield’s sewer system in 2015. The deal allowed it to keep employees in the township building rent free for up to five years. That deal is slated to end this year.
“We need a place to house office space and equipment,” Hohman said.
The building project will include 10,000 square feet for about 30 office workers in the sewer division. A 38,000-square-foot garage will service 60 vehicles and other equipment, officials said.
The authority received 37 construction bids.
Lone Pine Construction of Bentleyville will be paid $3.57 million to serve as general contractor. A-1 Electric of Washington will be paid $694,00; Whitby Plumbing and HVAC of Uniontown received an $861,300 contract; and Neuman Plumbing Inc. of Zelienople secured a $375,000 contract.
Construction is scheduled to begin next month. Work is expected to be completed by January 2021, Hohman said.
