About $2.7 million in capital projects including road work and park improvements is funded in Murrysville’s 2024 budget.

The spending plan, approved Wednesday does not include a tax increase.

Property taxes will remain at 12.15 mills in the $15.6 million budget.

Just under 3.5 mills dedicated for Murrysville’s capital improvement fund will go toward $2.7 million in capital projects next year. Major expenditures include $1.5 million in street work and $465,000 in parks improvements.

Duff Park would see construction of an enlarged parking area, a retaining wall around the parking lot and a restroom near the entrance. Pavilion and gazebo repairs will take place in Townsend Park along with road work on the entrance and interior road. There also is $17,000 in general improvements through Boy Scouts projects, general maintenance and trail work, but that money will come from the budget’s general fund instead of the capital reserve.

Beer distributor

Council granted unanimous approval for the addition of a beer distributor next to the Sunoco station at the corner of Route 22 and Berlin Farm Road.

Your Daily Brew, operated by Sunoco’s owners, would be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, according to Ed Patton of Patton Engineering.

The facade will be the same color and brick size as the existing Sunoco station.

By state law, the beer distributor must be a stand-alone structure. It would be to the west of the current Sunoco convenience store, roughly 2,500 square feet in size.

Council Mac McKenna abstained from voting, as his family is involved in a competitive Murrysville business, Rooz Brews.

Short-term rentals

Council voted 6-1 to approve an ordinance regulating short-term rentals such as AirBnBs or VRBOs.

The ordinance removes references to specific zoning where short-term rentals can be located, removes language requiring that a short-term rental be a primary residence, and changes the maximum overnight occupancy from eight to 10 people based on the number of bedrooms.

As of Dec. 7, there are no rentals listed on either the AirBnB or VRBO websites in the municipality.

Councilman Tony Spadaro voted against the ordinance.
