Jackson Richey, 4, slips underneath the new jungle gym playground equipment as his sister, Brynlee, 2, and dad, Charlie of Penn Township enjoy a frozen shaved ice. Parkgoers brace for water splashing out of the bucket fountain. The bucket works on a cycle and splashes out water after several minutes.

Murrysville public works crews had to battle a soggy spring to get it finished, but municipal officials cut the ribbon on their “destination playground” and splash pad on Saturday morning at Murrysville Community Park.

Murrysville Chief Administrator Jim Morrison wasn’t waiting to cool down, volunteering as the first person to stand beneath the splash pad’s dump bucket.

New features include separate playground areas, one for 2-to-5-year-olds, and another for 5-to-12-year-olds, the splash park, swing area and small zip line. The park is at 4056 Wiestertown Road.
