The Murrysville Woman’s Club awarded $7,750 in annual scholarships to Westmoreland County women seeking to further their education.
The club on July 8 presented scholarships to Heather Lake of New Alexandria, Bobbi McVay of Greensburg and Jenna Maroadi of North Huntingdon.
The club, which marked its 100th anniversary in 2020, has awarded the scholarships for the past 38 years.
Starting out with vo-tech scholarships, the club in 1983 began awarding nontraditional scholarships for women 21 and older seeking to further their education. In 2019, the club awarded $6,600 in scholarships to women from Murrysville, Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg.
Lake is a second-semester senior at Seton Hill University. She is seeking a degree to become a marriage and family therapist. She is an instructional aide for cyber students and has already applied for graduate school.
McVay is also a senior at Seton Hill. She is currently employed as a dietary director in a skilled nursing facility and she is pursuing a degree in health care administration. Seton Hill recently spotlighted McVay for continuing her work at the nursing facility through the covid-19 pandemic while also maintaining a high GPA in school.
Maroadi is a junior at the University of Pittsburgh in Greensburg and is pursuing a degree in psychology. Her hope is to continue her studies and earn a doctoral degree in trauma/grief psychology.
The club has awarded more than $131,000 in scholarships over the years.
