Greensburg-Jeannette Branch NAACP will hold its annual Arts & Heritage Day and Juneteenth celebration on June 15 at Fairview Park near Delmont. Here, a group of boys dance to “Car Wash” during the 2016 event at Buster Clarkson Ball Field in Jeannette.

Greensburg-Jeannette Branch NAACP will hold its annual Arts & Heritage Day and Juneteenth celebration from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. June 15 in Fairview Park, at Old William Penn Highway and Rock Springs Road in Salem.

Featured entertainers will be the Rev. Roy Aiken and the Garment of Praise band at 1 p.m. and the Stage Right Sensations at 3 p.m.

The event also will include a DJ and line dancing, food and merchandise vendors, children’s craft activity by Home Depot, face-painting, bingo, water balloon toss and an information table.

A hot dog and soda will be $3.

The park is a historic African-American spiritual retreat center and recreation destination developed during the segregation era.

Juneteenth commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, and more generally the emancipation of slaves throughout the former Confederate States of America. Celebrations often include the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, prayer and singing of traditional songs, including “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” known as the Black National Anthem.
