New cases prompt Penn-Trafford to close Penn Middle School through Wednesday
Penn Middle School will be closed Monday through Wednesday because of an increase in covid-19 cases.
Penn-Trafford School District officials notified parents in a letter emailed Sunday from Superintendent Matthew Harris.
There are five active covid-19 cases at the school, two of which were added over the weekend. Four of the five people who tested positive were in the school building while they were contagious, Harris wrote.
The school will reopen for classes on Thursday. Until then, all extracurricular activities will be postponed.
People who may have come into contact with those who tested positive have been notified and will be quarantining.
Parents and students will receive further information about online assignments during the closure.
“We will be closely monitoring the situation to determine if additional closures are necessary,” Harris wrote in the letter.
The district is working with the state Department of Heath, Harris wrote.
