A New Derry man was arrested Thursday after Latrobe police said he fled a traffic stop and crashed into a boulder.

Nicholas E. Armitage, 19, is charged with fleeing from police and reckless endangerment along with 19 summary traffic violations.

An officer attempted to pull over a Toyota Scion at 2 a.m. after the driver ran a stop sign at the intersection of Tyler Street and Tacoma Avenue, according to police. The driver instead sped through several more stop signs over the next few miles before crashing on Industrial Boulevard, police said.

Neither Armitage, who was later identified by police as the driver, nor his female passenger were hurt.

Armitage was released on his own recognizance. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 13.
