Sample collection for covid tests are administered at a testing site at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in March 2020.

The number of new confirmed covid cases in the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin area dipped slightly from March 22 to 29, compared to the previous seven-day period, according to data released Monday by the state Department of Health.

There were 47 new confirmed cases in the four ZIP codes covering most of the Irwin, North Huntingdon and North Irwin area, raising the total to 2,897, up just 1.6% from the 2,850 cases as of March 22. The weekly increase was a little less than the 53 new confirmed cases of coronavirus reported from March 15 to 22, based on analysis of the covid case data. The case count dates back to the beginning of the pandemic in the region in March 2020.

There were 1,389 probable but not confirmed cases, an increase of just 48 cases. Since coronavirus testing began last year, there have been 11,929 negative test results, 113 more than March 22. That is a jump from the 84 negative tests in those four ZIP codes between March 15 to 22.

In the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin 15642 ZIP code, there were 2,788 confirmed cases, an increase of 45 cases; 1,359 probable cases and 11,662 negative test results. The 15642 ZIP code covers parts of sections of neighboring Penn Township and Hempfield Township, but not sections of North Huntingdon bordering Trafford or White Oak.

There were 64 confirmed covid cases and 18 probable cases in the Westmoreland City 15692 ZIP code, which was unchanged for the third consecutive week. There were 220 negative test results as of March 29.

In the Ardara 15615 ZIP code, there were 28 confirmed cases and seven probable but not confirmed. There were 72 negative test results.

The Larimer 15647 ZIP code had 17 new confirmed cases and five probable cases, unchanged from March 22. There were 76 negative test results, one less than in March 22.
