PennDOT is preparing to transition to a new phase and a new detour in its ongoing update of concrete pavement and lighting at the Route 119 and Toll Route 66 interchange in New Stanton.
Crews are expected by next week to reopen the ramp used by motorists heading from northbound Route 119 to westbound Interstate 70, once fresh pavement on the ramp has cured.
After a break for the Fourth of July holiday, contractor Golden Triangle Construction is scheduled to begin concrete work at 7 a.m. July 8 on the ramp that allows drivers to continue north on Route 119 from Mt. Pleasant toward Youngwood. That ramp will be closed for about eight weeks, with traffic directed along a detour following I-70 west and turning around to return east to the point where the interstate connects with Route 119.
The work is part of a $3 million project that includes replacement of highway lighting, repair of concrete on a 600-foot section of Route 119 and repair or reconstruction of portions of the ramps at the interchange with Toll 66.
Also involved is preservation of two bridges that carry ramps over Sewickley Creek and a rail line. The contractor will reconstruct an asphalt shoulder along northbound Route 119 to help improve an acceleration lane.
Completion of the project is anticipated in April 2020.
