A New Stanton man is behind bars after state police said he tried to flee a traffic stop Monday when troopers clocked him going 60 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to court papers.

Anthony Michael Inks, 32, is charged with fleeing from police, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, drug possession, driving without a license and several other offenses.

Inks was pulled over at 2:30 p.m. after police saw him driving a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle with an obscured registration plate on Sunny Lane in East Huntingdon, according to court papers. When troopers ordered him to turn off the engine, Inks tried to flee from a parking lot, but police blocked the exit with a cruiser.

The motorcycle stalled when Inks tried to drive over a sidewalk and police said he tried to run away. Troopers attempted to use a Taser but the probes did not penetrate Inks’ jacket, according to court papers.

Police apprehended him and said they seized marijuana, rolling papers and a knife from him. He appeared to be under the influence of marijuana but refused a chemical test, according to court papers. Inks is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

A preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.

Inks is awaiting trial in a March caseof attempting to stab state troopers with a pen during an arrest for shoplifting at a Walmart store in East Huntingdon, according to court records. Police said then that they found Inks with merchandise in his pants pockets and a Walmart bag. Police confiscated a knife from his waistband.
