The former New Stanton Borough building is for sale.

A piece of New Stanton’s history — the old borough building on North Center Avenue — is for sale.

The borough wants to get a fair price from the property at 451 N. Center Ave. and see it put back in use, said Raymond Strosko, council president.

New Stanton Council has not had the property appraised and has not decided on a minimum bid that would be accepted, said Jeff McLaughlin, borough manager. Council could reject all bids if they are less than the fair market value.

The property is zoned B-1, General Business District, and is located just north of several fast food restaurants, convenience stores and motels that serve travelers coming from the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate 70. The 2,650-square-foot building has parking in the front and rear. The main floor has an office area and kitchen, with a finished basement holding the former council room.

For prospective buyers, New Stanton “is kind of like a little hot spot, with easy access to the turnpike and I-70,” said Lauri Means, a Realtor with Miscovich Real Estate of Youngwood.

New Stanton moved its municipal offices to Paintersville Road in 2015. The borough built a new 2,100-square-foot addition to its public works building to house administrative offices and council chambers.

David Bair and his wife, Rachel, donated the land for the former borough building in 1975 and Mellon Bank donated the building. The borough had moved the structure from its former location on North Center Avenue, where it had been a residence and then a Mellon Bank office, the borough said.

Anyone interested in buying the property must submit a sealed bid to the borough’s office at 318 Paintersville Road by 3 p.m. Dec. 15. Council is scheduled to open bids during a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 15.

Bid forms can be obtained by contacting McLaughlin at 724-925-9700, Ext. 2, or boromanager@newstanton.org. Bidders who want to inspect the building should contact Commercial Choice Realty at 724-327-3482.
