A cat was rescued from a Jeannette house fire Saturday night that caused significant damage, according to Fire Chief Bill Frye.

Residents of the Lafferty Street home were able to escape uninjured just before 8 p.m. after they were alerted to the blaze by neighbors. Flames were seen in the rear of the home and through the roof by first responders, Frye said.

The fire was under control in about 30 minutes and a state police fire marshal is investigating the cause. No firefighters were hurt.

The cat was given oxygen through a pet mask. Lafferty Street is off Harrison Avenue/Route 130 near the city’s border with Hempfield.
