No injuries in incident that snarled traffic on Route 30 in Unity
No one was hurt in an incident that snarled traffic on Route 30 Thursday afternoon after a bucket truck pulled down wires, according to state police.
The incident was reported just before 2 p.m. in Unity near the highway’s intersection with Giffen Drive, near Burger King and a GetGo under construction. Troopers said the driver of a bucket truck was attempting to turn from Giffen Drive onto Route 30 westbound when part of the truck hit power lines and pulled them down.
Police said the bucket portion of the truck had not been brought down the entire way, leaving it sticking up.
The wires fell on top of a Dodge Caravan waiting to turn onto Giffen Drive from Route 30, causing scratches on the hood and roof.
Workers from West Penn Power shut off electricity. Troopers said, in an effort to resume normal traffic flow, utility workers cut their lines and those belonging to Verizon after no estimated arrival time was provided by Verizon. Police said they intend to cite the driver of the bucket truck.
That section of Route 30 typically sees an average of 18,000 motorists daily, according to PennDOT traffic volume maps.
