No new covid-19 cases, deaths to report in Westmoreland County
Westmoreland County did not have any new covid-19 cases or deaths to report as of Saturday, state health data show.
Between Thursday and Friday, state officials had reported one more covid-19 case in the county, bringing the total to 423.
Nearly 40% of Westmoreland County’s cases involve residents and employees of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Across nine nursing homes with cases in the county, 134 residents and 34 employees have tested positive.
The county’s coronavirus death toll has stood at 32 since last week. The state health department attributes at least 27 of those deaths to nursing homes.
According to Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha, those who died include 15 men and 17 women between ages 61 and 109. The average age of the deaths was 83.
Neither the coroner nor state officials reported any new deaths on Saturday.
At least one resident of Parnassus Manor in New Kensington has tested positive for covid-19, Westmoreland County Housing Authority officials said Friday. The patient marks the first known covid-19 case among the authority’s 38 housing communities.
More than 6,800 people in the county have tested negative for the virus.
Westmoreland and surrounding counties on Friday moved into the yellow phase of the state’s tiered reopening plan.
Pennsylvanian’s total coronavirus cases climbed by 989 cases, with 61,611, with patients confirmed in all 67 of the state’s counties.
