A woman was left homeless Friday afternoon when flames spread through her mobile home in Hempfield.
No one was reported injured in the fire, which occurred at the Sliver Dolphin Mobile Home Park.
The woman who lives there wasn’t home when a maintenance man reported the fire just after 1 p.m. along Dolphin Lane, High Park Fire Chief John Howell said.
According to Howell, the fire was sparked while the man was soldering in the bathroom.
The fire “spread to the ceiling and under the floor and took off in both directions,” Howell said. “It went pretty quick.”
The worker got out safely and called 911.
Firefighters were able to keep flames from spreading to propane tanks used to heat the home.
A local code official has declared the home unlivable, Howell said.
There was no fire hydrant close at hand, but he said, “We had plenty of trucks there.”
High Park Fire Department was assisted by units from Adamsburg, Jeannette, Grapeville, North Hempfield and Westmoreland City. They remained at the scene for about three hours.
