A North Carolina woman was paroled from the Westmoreland County Prison on Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to operating an online theft and extortion plot last year against a North Huntingdon man.

Prosecutors said the scheme had the victim paying nearly $24,000 over several months to a woman who investigators said was an adult performer on the OnlyFans website.

Police said the plot started as part of a fake fundraiser seeking donations for a heart transplant and evolved into what the victim said was an ongoing relationship that included payment for sexually explicit pictures and then extortion.

Sydney Marie Carlson, 29, pleaded guilty to felony charges of theft by extortion and receiving stolen property and, as part of a deal with prosecutors, was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail and five additional years on probation.

Carlson was extradited from North Carolina in late May, according to court records. She was released by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio. Carlson was given credit for nearly four months she has been in custody following her arrest and transfer to Westmoreland County Prison.

The judge also ordered Carlson to pay her victim $1,000 in restitution by July 3, then make monthly payments of $200.

North Huntingdon police said Carlson’s victim made multiple payments to her over several months in 2024 after she posed as at least three different people. One of her alternate identities was that of a man who sought to extort the victim with false claims that nude pictures exchanged as part of the scheme were of a juvenile.

Authorities confirmed the pictures were of an adult, police said.

Investigators eventually tracked down Carlson through online payment accounts and digital tracking of websites, police said.
