North Huntingdon property owners will have until Aug. 31 to receive a discount on their township real estate taxes.

The township commissioners on Wednesday unanimously approved an extension of the April 30 deadline for the discount period.

The commissioners at the special meeting also waived any interest and penalties on municipal real estate taxes if paid in full by Dec. 31.

Township officials pointed out that does not apply to any other taxing body, such as the Norwin School District. Westmoreland County officials passed a similar extension for county property taxes.

North Huntingdon was permitted to extend the deadline because of a state act signed into law on April 20.
