The post-holiday spread of confirmed covid cases in the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin area rose by 57 from Feb. 8-16, according to state Department of Health data released Tuesday.

That translates to an increase of 2.2%.

The fact that the increase in cases from Feb. 8-16 was greater than the 43 additional cases from Feb. 1-8 might be attributed to the fact this week’s tally covered eight days because there was not a report on Monday, a state and federal holiday.

In the four ZIP codes covering the North Huntingdon-Irwin, Larimer, Ardara and Westmoreland City areas, there were 2,636 confirmed cases of covid. That’s up from 2,576 a week ago, when cases rose by 1.6%. There were 1,194 probable, but not confirmed cases, which is an increase of 99.

About 35,000 people live in the area.

There were 11,180 negative covid tests as of Feb. 16. The test results are counted every time a person within that region has a negative covid test.

All of the total numbers are a count from the beginning of the pandemic last March.

In the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin 15642 ZIP code, which covers parts of Penn Township and Hempfield , but not sections of the township bordering Trafford or White Oak, there were 2,535 confirmed cases, 1,166 probable cases and 10,829 negative test results.

There were 62 confirmed covid cases in the Westmoreland City 15692 ZIP code, 18 probable cases and 211 negative test results.

In the Ardara 15615 ZIP code, there were 23 confirmed cases, five probable and 68 negative test results.

There were 16 confirmed cases in the Larimer 15647 ZIP code, five probable cases and 72 negative test results.

There are eight active covid cases in the Norwin School District as of Feb. 16, seven of which are students and one is a staff member. As of Feb. 12, 61 students were under quarantine and seven staff, according to the school district’s Covid-19 Tracker.
