People who like to walk around Lions Park in North Huntingdon should have a paved trail to get their exercise later this summer.

Township commissioners wants to hire a contractor to build an eight-foot-wide paved trail around the perimeter of the park off Robbins Station Road, said Bob Robinson, senior project engineer for the township.

Bids for the work will be opened Wednesday, and a contract for the project will be awarded in July, Robinson said. The work is scheduled to be completed within 60 days of awarding the contract, he said.

The project will include stabilizing a slope to reduce the likelihood of flooding from an unnamed tributary to Long Run and improving drainage, Robinson said.

The estimated cost of the project is $125,000, Robinson said. The money will be taken from the recreation department budget.

Township officials have discussed plans for Lions Park, but have been cautious of adding amenities because the park is prone to flooding. The park has a pavilion and a playground.
