The North Huntingdon Police Department emergency response team is conducting training and walk-through drills at all seven of Norwin School District’s buildings.

Police issued an alert at about 3 p.m. Thursday to inform residents of the training and that there is not a need for alarm when seeing police at the high school, middle school, intermediate school and elementary schools.

The drills are expected to last a few hours.

Safety exercise drills are essential in the school district’s continuing partnership with the township police department, said Superintendent William Kerr.

“There is no greater priority than the safety of our students and staff; therefore, the board and administration fully embrace continuous education and training by school and law enforcement officials,” Kerr stated.’

Sgt. Jay McCurdy, commander of the emergency response team, could not be reached for comment.
