North Huntingdon residents in the township’s Sixth Ward have a chance to be selected as a commissioner for that district, replacing the incumbent who will resign on Saturday.
Sixth Ward Commissioner Lyndsay Wengrzyn-Romano is resigning because she moved to Penn Township. A Republican, she was elected to the board in 2021 to a term that will expire in January 2024.
The commissioners intend to nominate a candidate at the board’s workshop meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 12, said Commissioner Zachary Haigis. The board will give those who submit letters of interest to fill the vacancy an opportunity speak at the meeting about why they want to serve. The candidate receiving four votes would be able to take office at the board’s Oct. 18 meeting, Haigis said.
With Wengrzyn-Romano’s resignation effective on Sept. 30, the commissioners have until Oct. 30 to make an appointment.
Commissioner Ronald Zona suggested taking recommendations from Wengrzyn-Romano for the person to be her replacement.
Anyone interested must be a registered voter in that ward and have lived in the Sixth Ward continuously for one year before being appointed. The map of the Sixth Ward is available on the township website at nhtpa.us.
