The North Huntingdon Municipal Authority has approved a $200 increase for tapping into its sewage system, but the sewage rates will remain the same for the fiscal year that began May 1.

The tap-in fees were raised from $4,500 to $4,700 as of July 1 for each equivalent dwelling unit that is tapped into the system carrying sewage to its Youghiogheny Treatment Plan. The tap-in fee, which is calculated based on state guidelines, allows authorities to recover money spent on capital expenditures, pay off debt and finance new capital projects, the authority said.

The increase in tap-in fees is part of the authority’s $9.8 million fiscal year budget that the board approved, along with an $11.8 million five-year capital improvements plan.

The authority, which serves 12,350 residential and commercial customers, is moving its administrative offices, billing and customer service departments from the North Huntingdon Town House to its Youghiogheny Treatment Plant complex at 4130 Turner Valley Road, beginning July 20. The phone numbers and contact information will remain the same, said Michael Branthoover, authority manager. Any correspondence should be mailed to the Turner Valley Road address.

The authority will not be accepting drop box payments at the Town House.
