North Huntingdon singer Aubrey Burchell is among the 54 acts that are moving on to the live shows on “America’s Got Talent” on NBC.
Burchell, 21, will compete in the next round. Next week the show will begin to air twice a week, from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Burchell impressed the judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara – on Tuesday’s show with her rendition of “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd.
All four judges said yes to Burchell moving on in the competition, with Klum praising her “fantastic voice” and “very cool look.”
Cowell said every note wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t matter, because “we’re just witnessing somebody’s career about to skyrocket.”
NBC said there will be six weeks of live shows beginning Tuesday with the results to follow on Wednesday’s show.
NBC said there will be 55 acts, including one Wildcard, divided into five qualifying rounds that will perform live for the judges. Only two of the 11 acts that perform each week will move directly to the finale — one from the viewer overnight vote and the second being chosen by the judges from the acts that placed in second, third and fourth places.
“These top 10 finalists will be joined by an 11th act — a ‘Final Wildcard’ — chosen by the viewers in an Instant Save on Wednesday, Sept. 7,” NBC said. “This vote will consist of four eliminated Live Show acts, each selected by one of the judges.”
The top 11 finalists then will compete for America’s vote and the $1 million prize during the finale, Sept. 13-14. The winner will also perform in “America’s Got Talent Las Vegas LIVE” at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
“‘America’s Wildcard’ spot is back with four acts in contention for the final spot in the live shows,” NBC said. “Viewers can go to NBC.com or the “AGT” app to rewatch the four performances and vote for their favorite contestants. Voting is open until 7 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5. The winning act will perform on the live show on Tuesday, Sept. 6.”
Acts in contention for “America’s Wildcard” are Auzzy Blood, Ben Waites, Debbii Dawson and Jordan Conley.
The Golden Buzzer winners moving to the live shows are: Avery Dixon, Chapel Heart, Lily Meola, Madison Taylor Baez, Mayyas and Sara James.
In 2018, Burchell made it to the top 70 on ABC’s “American Idol.”
Since then, she’s been honing her talents by writing songs in the R&B and pop veins and performing on weekends at bars, wineries and other area venues.
She has a job as a personal shopper at the North Huntingdon Target, and told the “AGT” judges that she sings in the store restroom during her breaks.
Burchell started performing as a child at area fundraisers and other events. At about 14, she started singing at the former Keynote Cafe in Jeannette.
