North Irwin, Irwin reach deal on police coverage
North Irwin’s 900 residents will continue to receive police protection from the Irwin Police Department under a new three-year deal that the two adjoining boroughs recently approved.
North Irwin will pay slightly more for police coverage in 2021 — $2,450 — than in 2020 — $2,333 — under the contract that expires Dec. 31.
North Irwin will pay Irwin $2,500 for police protection in 2022 and $2,600 in 2023, according to Lisa Gesler, North Irwin’s secretary-treasurer.
Under the contract, Irwin police will respond to emergencies in North Irwin when contacted by a resident, Gesler said.
Irwin Borough had approved the contract Dec. 9.
