Norwin School District added eight more cases to its covid count among students on Tuesday as the rising number of cases among students and staff is closing in on 200 since classes began in late August.
In this latest round of covid announcements, five Stewartsville Elementary School students tested positive for coronavirus and one student at the high school, the middle school and Hillcrest Intermediate. Norwin does not need to sanitize the buildings more and all buildings were ready for staff on Wednesday, the district said.
All of Norwin’s 5,300 students have been receiving instruction in a virtual manner this week and will continue until at least Jan. 11, but students were in class last week at Stewartsville and at Hillcrest. On Monday, six staff members at Stewartsville Elementary reported testing positive for coronavirus.
Since the Thanksgiving holiday, Norwin has been notified of 87 covid cases. Norwin has 45 active covid cases and 146 cases that have been resolved since Aug. 31. Thirty-four staff members and 230 students are in quarantine, the district said.
School nurses have finished contract tracing under the state Department of Health direction, the district said.
