The number of new confirmed coronavirus cases in the Norwin area ending the week of Dec. 21 trended below the previous week , the first time since the Thanksgiving holiday , according to the state Department of Health.
The number of new covid-19 cases last week increased by 229 to 1,846 in the four ZIP codes covering most of the Norwin area’s population of 35,000, a 14.1% increase from the week of Dec. 7 to 14, which saw a 315-count increase.
Since the Thanksgiving holiday, there have been 838 additional covid cases in the Norwin area from the 1,008 cases as of Nov. 30., according to the state.
There were 658 additional probable cases as of Dec. 21 in the four ZIP codes. The number of negative tests, as counted from the beginning of the pandemic in the state, was 9,355, up from 9,040 as of Dec. 14.
In the North Huntingdon 15642 ZIP code, where the majority of the Norwin population resides, there were 1,776 confirmed cases as of Dec. 21. There were 642 probable cases and 9,063 negative test results since the beginning of the pandemic. The 15642 ZIP includes part of Penn and Hempfield townships.
In the Westmoreland City 15692 ZIP code, the state reported 49 confirmed cases, 10 probable cases and 181 negative test results.
There have been 11 confirmed cases in the Larimer 15647 ZIP code, with five probable cases and 55 negative test results.
There have been just 10 confirmed coronavirus cases in the Ardara 15615 ZIP code, between one and four probable cases and 56 negative test results.
