The Norwin Chamber of Commerce won’t hold its annual community picnic at Idlewild and SoakZone in Ligonier Township as it has in the past, opting instead for an online picnic this year.

With government-ordered restrictions prohibiting gatherings of more than 250 people, the Norwin Chamber of Commerce will hold its 88th Annual Norwin Community Picnic online instead of at Idlewild Park & SoakZone in Ligonier Township.

The virtual picnic, while not giving children the opportunity to enjoy the roller coaster or the merry go-round, will give people the chance to “gather together” in the online world on Aug. 5.

According to tradition, the Norwin Public Library will hold a Virtual Story Time at 11 a.m., just like it has done at Idlewild’s Storybook Forest. A game organized by the library will begin at 2 p.m. , said Rosanne Novotnak, chamber of commerce executive director. The picnic will end with a virtual prize drawing at 4 p.m. Those interested in participating can drop off their entry tickets at participating businesses, Novotnak said.

“We ask you to spend the day as a family,” Novotnak said, whether it is done indoors or outdoors.

The chamber is asking the community’s support to provide prizes for the drawing. For more information, contact the chamber office in Irwin at 724-863-0888 or info@norwinchamber.com.

The chamber plans to resume the picnic at Idlewild on Aug. 4. 2021.
