The Norwin School District Community Foundation wants to raise $7,500 to bolster its scholarship funds during its annual Days of Giving.

The solicitation runs from Wednesday, Sept. 25 through Sunday, Sept. 29 in conjunction with the homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 27 night and weekend festivities.

“This is a major part of growing our scholarships and program funds,” said Jack Boylan, foundation president and former Norwin superintendent.

The foundation, created in 2007, has distributed more than $172,000 in total scholarships, according to the school district.

Contributions to support the ongoing maintenance of the Norwin Veterans 2000 Memorial and the Norwin Area Veterans Memorial may also be made during the Days of Giving, Boylan said.

The foundation said the money it raises will go toward one or more of these programs:

• To grow its smallest scholarship endowment funds of $175 to $250, so students who earn these scholarships will have more substantial financial support as they begin their post-high school education.

• To add funds to any scholarship facilitated by the foundation, which are listed on a school district website.

• To provide additional funding for Norwin’s K-12 STEM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to provide students and teachers with the specialized STEM curricular resources needed to support STEM instruction.

• To provide funding for Educator Innovation Grants, a competitive program that offers start-up funds for teachers to provide innovative instruction to enrich and enhance student learning. The CPR and Stop the Bleed curricula started with Educator Innovation Grants, as well as other initiatives to create lessons to enhance student learning.

• To support the Norwin Alumni and Friends Association Fundraising for the Generations initiative in order to raise $20,000 in 2020 to build the NAFA Scholarship Endowment. Information is available on the foundation website.
