Norwin group to resume Meals on Wheels
Norwin Area Meals on Wheels, which stopped delivering meals o March 25 because of fears of spreading the coronavirus, will resume deliveries Tuesday, but with modifications to meet social distancing requirements, a spokesman said.
Because of limited space in the New Hope Presbyterian Church kitchen in North Huntingdon where the meals were prepared, the organization has contracted with the Nutrition Group to prepare frozen meals, said Clint Page, a Meals on Wheels official. These meals, which will remain at a cost of $5, will be delivered on the regular daily schedule by the organization’s volunteers.
All Centers for Disease Control covid-19 guidelines will be followed by volunteers and staff, Page said.
Before the shutdown, the Meals on Wheels organization was delivering meals to about 65 people. With the concerns over covid-19, Page said he expects the volunteers will be delivering only about 50 meals on weekdays.
Anyone in the Norwin area interested in having meals delivered is asked to call Jean at 724-861-9202.
While Norwin Area Meals on Wheels is not preparing meals in the church kitchen, the organization still is seeking more volunteers. Those interested in volunteering should contact Jean at 724-861-9202.
