Norwin replenished its teaching staff for the next school year, hiring secondary and elementary teachers, along with full-time, long-term substitutes.

The five full-time secondary teachers hired by the Norwin School Board Monday under the 2019-2020 school year budget were: Rebecca Shakely, music; Dylan McElfresh, social studies; Marissa Pecora and Aimee Wolkiewicz, English; and Rachel Reilly, business, computers and information technology.

Those hired at the elementary level were: Courtney Crupie, business, computer and information technology; Megan Nelson, special education; and Sara Novesel, Jenna Talamo, and Kaitlin Lafferty. Rachel Anderson and Jalina Robosky were hired as long-term substitute teachers.

Ten teachers hired by the district replaced teachers who left Norwin during the 2018-2019 school year and the hiring of one teacher expanded the staff, said Superintendent William Kerr, who was in his last meeting before retiring at the end of the month. Kerr will be replaced by Jeff Taylor, who had been assistant superintendent at the North Hills School District.

Hiring a teacher for business, computer and information technology will introduce seventh grade students to computer programming, Kerr said. This will reduce the middle school semester study halls to a quarter study hall for seventh graders, Kerr said.

The $73.6 million budget that the board approved for the upcoming school year also allows for restoring a 10-month position of a school psychologist, Kerr said.
