Shell casings fly as members of VFW Post No. 33 Honor Guard fire a 21-gun salute during the 2017 Memorial Day service at Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Hempfield Township. The Norwin Historical Society is planning a 21-gun salute at ceremonies Sunday at Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.

The Norwin Historical Society will hold its annual Memorial Day observances Sunday at area cemeteries and war memorials.

The historical society will place a wreath at 1 p.m. at the Monument to the Fallen at the Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon. Ceremonies will include a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps, according to Carl Huszar, historical society president.

The society will conduct a similar ceremony at 1:50 p.m. at the Brush Creek Cemetery on Leger Road, North Huntingdon.

Other wreath-laying ceremonies will follow at 2:20 p.m. at the North Huntingdon Town House, 2:45 p.m. at the Westmoreland City Memorial along Route 993 and 3 p.m. at the Biddle War Memorial, Huszar said.

The historical society has been conducting the Memorial Day observances since 1997.
