Norwin will honor outstanding athletes and three teams at the Norwin Athletic Hall of Fame on Thursday as part of the school’s homecoming activities.

The 1984 boys swimming team and the 2006 and 2007 girls track teams will be inducted into the Norwin Athletic Hall of Fame during a program at 6 p.m. Thursday at Stratigos Banquet Centre, 131 Colonial Manor Road, North Huntingdon.

Athletes to be honored include: Dennis Fix, wrestling; Ron Garofolo, baseball; Andy Kalas, soccer; Kasey Kemp, track; Craig Kovalcin, football; Laura Marcolina, basketball and volleyball; Michael Salopek, football and wrestling; Jessica Sharik, soccer; and Jackie Wilson, volleyball.

Tickets are $35 and are available by calling the high school athletic office at 724-861-3006.

Homecoming festivities will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a Norwin Student Council banquet to honor the homecoming court at Banquets Unlimited, Caruthers Lane, Irwin. Attendance at the banquet is by invitation only.

A community carnival featuring rides, face painting, dunking booth, entertainment and food trucks will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at Norwin High School before the football game against Butler. Admission to the carnival is $15 at the gates and $12 for pre-orders. Contact Kim Letso at [email protected] for ticket information.

The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Presentation of the homecoming king, queen, and court will occur at halftime.

The homecoming parade through downtown Irwin is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The route will follow Main Street to Pennsylvania Avenue.

A shuttle service for parade watchers will run from the Norwin Knights Stadium beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 10:10 a.m. After the parade, the shuttle service will pick up people at the Queen of Angels School and return them to Norwin High School. This service is recommended because of limited parking in Irwin.

A homecoming dance for students will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.
