An unknown male was promising female Norwin students money in exchange for nude photos of themselves via the social media site Snapchat, Norwin school officials said Monday.

Norwin Superintendent Jeff Taylor said in a statement North Huntingdon police alerted school officials to the “safety concern involving sexting,” which is transmitting explicit photos through the use of electronic devices.

Taylor said Monday following the school board meeting he could not comment on the matter because it is under investigation by the police.

The school is asking any parent whose daughter was contacted about such photos, to call North Huntingdon police at 724-863-8800.

The school district encourages parents to discuss digital safety with their children and the importance of not sending inappropriate pictures to anyone via text or social media.

Those parents who may need additional information were advised to contact their child’s principal or school counselor.

North Huntingdon Chief Robert Rizzo declined to comment.
