Norwin officials to discuss in-school options for instruction
Norwin school officials are planning to discuss options for more in-person instruction during a school board meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Superintendent Jeff Taylor is expected to address plans for students in grades five through 11 to have the option of returning to school for four days of in-person instruction with one day of virtual learning, rather than continuing in a hybrid form of two days of in-school instruction and three days of remote learning.
Norwin gave families the opportunity to complete surveys to tell the district their preference for returning to four days of in-person learning with one synchronous day of instruction, the current hybrid form of two days of instruction and three days remote learning or attending Norwin Online Academy, the district’s own cyber school.
The district last month discussed the possibility of giving students the option of being in class four days a week and one day of synchronous learning in March, but that depended on the level of community transmission of covid remaining in at least the moderate range.
Taylor said last month there were challenges in maintaining social distance with all of the district’s students in the high school.
The school district last month gave seniors and students in kindergarten through fourth grade, the choice of taking in-person instruction four days a week, while offering students in grades five through 11, a hybrid form of instruction that all gives students two of in-class instruction each week and three day of virtual learning.
Students also had the choice of receiving instruction through the Norwin Online Academy.
