Norwin is partnering with the Pittsburgh Pirates to sell tickets to the Norwin Knights at PNC Park baseball game on May 4, an activity that also will help while helping to raise funds for the school district’s renovation projects at the Knights Stadium and the high school auditorium.

The school district has a goal of selling 1,000 tickets to baseball fans for the Bucs’ game at 1:35 p.m. May 4 against the San Diego Padres. Through negotiations with the Pirates, Norwin will receive $10 for every ticket it sells, with the proceeds going to the A+ Facilities Capital Campaign, said Lauren Steiner, Norwin’s director of communications and development.

By selling all of the tickets, the district will raise $10,000 for the capital campaign, said Superintendent Natalie McCracken.

The tickets are $36 apiece and include a $5 loaded value that can be used inside PNC Park. There will be taxes and a processing fee, in additional to the base price of the ticket.

As a part of this year’s event, more than 90 high school students will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Pirates to create a marketing campaign to sell tickets for the event, Steiner said. Two teams of students from Norwin’s sports marketing and social media classes have been challenged with selling 1,000 tickets for the event. The students recently visited PNC Park and participated in a professional training session led by the Pirates’ sales and marketing teams, where they learned industry techniques.

All tickets sold from both teams of students are for seats in the same area of the park.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on the Norwin website, www.norwinsd.org/apps/news/article/2047427 . Tickets sold will be delivered digitally — no physical tickets will be distributed.

The fundraising committee for the capital campaign has not set a goal, Steiner said.

“We are awaiting the approval of the stadium portion of the project,” Steiner said.

The stadium renovation project, which will involve demolishing the existing home grandstand, has been estimated to cost about $25 million. Norwin has advertised for bids and plans to open those on April 8. The school board then would decide whether to award a contract.

The school board in February awarded a series of contracts totalling $6.39 million for extensive renovations to the high school auditorium.
