Norwin school officials are proposing a number of dates in May, June, July and August to hold senior graduation ceremonies at the high school stadium.

In an email sent to parents last week, Superintendent Jeff Taylor said the district is looking at May 22 at 7 p.m. or a rain date of May 23 at 9 a.m. as the first options. In June, the proposed dates are June 26 at 7 p.m., with a rain date of June 27 at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m.

The last set of dates is July 31 at 7 p.m. with the rain date of Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m.

The school district’s plans for transforming the prom into a Senior Summer Celebration on the Thursday before commencement, drew criticism Monday from some seniors, who told the school board they want to bring a date to the event and that person is not a senior.

This event is a formal or semi-formal event for the Class of 2020 only, according to the school district. The location and time have yet to be determined.

A senior honors and awards ceremony will be held virtually on May 15 at 7 p.m. A vespers ceremony also will be held online on May 20 at 7 p.m.
