Kamden Stape, a fifth grader at Norwin’s Hillcrest Intermediate School, checks out the pumpkins that will be sold Friday as a fundraiser for Andrew’s Avengers, a charity that helps families battling pediatric cancer.

A group of fifth grade students at Norwin’s Hillcrest Intermediate School will sell pumpkins at 4 p.m. Friday outside the Advance Auto Parts in the Norwin Hills Shopping Center along Route 30 in North Huntingdon.

The effort will raise money for Andrew’s Avengers, which helps to support children and their families dealing with pediatric cancer.

The sale will continue until all of the pumpkins are sold. The proceeds and any donations will go to Andrew’s Avengers, which is named in memory of Hillcrest Principal Brian O’Neil’s son, Andrew, who died from cancer in December 2016.

The fifth grade students at Hillcrest are engaging in a fundraising competition — girls against boys — dubbed “The Lemonade War,” until Nov. 4. The money will support Team Evan in its competition with Team Jessie.

The competition is in conjunction with the students’ reading of the book “The Lemonade War.” They also are involved in a variety of other fundraisers, including bake sales and jewelry sales.

The fifth graders raised $41,917 last year for Andrew’s Avengers.
