Norwin teacher, companion waive court hearings
A Norwin Middle School teacher and her boyfriend waived their rights to a preliminary hearing this week on accusations they failed to disclose information that the man had pleaded guilty to corruption of a minor when he volunteered to work on a school musical earlier this year.
Tobitha Sasso, 40, and Brad W. Geyer, 38, both of Greensburg, were facing misdemeanor counts that North Huntingdon police filed in March — two against Sasso and one against Geyer. They waived their rights to a hearing before North Huntingdon District Judge Wayne Gongaware and are scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on Aug. 26 in Westmoreland County Court.
Sasso was the middle school musical director when she allowed Geyer to be a volunteer in February. Geyer had been placed on probation for three years after he pleaded guilty Nov. 1 to three misdemeanor counts of corruption of a minor and one misdemeanor count of furnishing alcohol to a minor in a Fayette County case.
He was accused of having sexual contact in May 2015 with an underage girl after giving her wine. Police charged Geyer in April 2018.
Geyer is accused of failing to disclose to the school district the criminal charges he faced when he completed paperwork to be a volunteer with the musical.
