The Norwin Theatre Company will present “Bring It On — The Musical” this month.

The musical opens March 17 and continues through March 20 at the high school auditorium, 281 McMahon Drive, North Huntingdon.

It is about a cheerleader who has the seemingly perfect teen life as captain of the cheer squad and a perfect boyfriend, when she is forced to go to a new school because of redistricting. She perseveres by befriending the girls in her new school’s dance crew and turns them into strong competitors for the national cheerleading championships.

Directors chose this musical “because it truly showcases the enormous talent here at Norwin,” said Lauren Scheirer is the music director and producer.

Students have been working hard to prepare not only hip-hop dance but cheerleading routines and stunts, Scheirer said.

Among the leads in the musical are Ciara Giran, a senior who plays Campbell; Anna Oestreich, a junior who portrays Danielle; Elizabeth Szymanski, a junior who plays Eva; Julia Shavel, a junior who plays La Cienega; and Abrielle Brown, a junior who portrays Bridget.

The students have been practicing since December and more rigorous rehearsals started in January. The cast has 65 members. There are 41 members of the crew.

Erin Shrader is the choreographer and stage director for the musical and Todd Leighty is technical director and stage crew.

Tickets are on sale now and available at www.nhstheatrecompany.com.
