A driver fled the scene after crashing into an AutoZone along Route 30 on Friday evening, according to a Westmoreland 911 dispatcher.

Officers responded shortly before 5:45 p.m. to the parts store, at 6499 Route 30 in Hempfield, where they found a white pickup that had crashed into the corner of the building.

Greg Manns, a manager at the Sunoco gas station next door, said he saw the truck swerve across Route 30 before crossing over the curb and slamming into the building.

“People in (AutoZone) came running out. … The guy seemed a little confused, probably because of the wreck,” Manns said. “He’s telling us his sister lives right over the hill and he needs to get his stuff so that’s where he’s going. He came over here, got his stuff, and just took off over the hill and disappeared.”

An AutoZone manager said no damage was done inside the building.

According to the dispatcher, there were no other injuries during the incident.

Officers cleared the scene around 7 p.m.
