A West Virginia man died Friday night when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed in Derry Township, authorities said.

Richard John Muth, 28, of Clarksburg, W.Va., was traveling east on Torrance Road about 8:30 p.m. when he lost control of vehicle while going around a curve, according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office.

State police said Muth’s car hit a tree and rolled before coming to a stop.

Muth was restrained, but the seatbelt sheered and Muth was found in a nearby field unresponsive, state police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his cause of death was listed as blunt force injuries.

It was not clear what caused Muth to lose control of the vehicle, but speed and alcohol are believed to be factors, according to the coroner’s office. No other vehicles were involved.
