A West Newton man is in stable condition after he was flown by helicopter following a crash Saturday afternoon in South Huntingdon.

Michael L. Smalich, 63, of West Newton was taken to Allegheny General Hospital after state police said he drove off Mt. Pleasant Road near its intersection with Painter Koser Road, hitting two utility poles and rolling his SUV.

Smalich was transported to a landing zone at Turkeytown Fire Hall and flown to the hospital with suspected serious injuries, police said.

He is listed in stable condition as of Monday afternoon, according to Allegheny General Hospital officials.
