Children are invited to learn about composer Ludwig van Beethoven during online story times presented by the Westmoreland Library Network, featuring musicians from the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra.

“Beethoven Lives Upstairs,” by Barbara Nichol, will be read during sessions at 11 a.m. Wednesday and Friday, and on July 13 and Aug. 6. Symphony musicians will provide live accompaniment.

The story is told through letters a young Viennese boy writes to his uncle about the difficult man who lives upstairs. The upstairs neighbor is the great composer, whose talent the boy eventually comes to appreciate.

“This live-virtual event (held via Zoom) will be a chance to see that musicians and those that write music are just like you and me, even when they may have special challenges in their life,” according to the WLN website.

The special programming also celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.

Participation is free; registration is required to receive Zoom login information.
