A new online map provides at-a-glance zoning information for developers and property owners in Greensburg.

The tool is the latest effort in the city’s ongoing campaign to reduce confusion and red tape in development.

It allows people to search for specific properties and see zoning districts at a glance. It also includes information on the city’s four special zoning overlay districts, which are subject to stricter rules and scrutiny.

The city planning department receives many phone calls from people who don’t know which zoning rules apply to particular pieces of property, according to planning director Jeff Raykes.

The free map should reduce those calls, while providing a quick reference for city staff, he said.

The map was developed by the city and the Westmoreland County Department of Planning and Development.

A recent report commissioned by the city and written by planning consultant Denny Puko found development in Greensburg is mired in confusion and unnecessary complexity. An online zoning map was one of the report’s suggestions for making developers’ lives easier.

“The more information we put in easily accessible formats, the better decision-making will be,” Mayor Robb Bell said in a statement.

The map is available at greensburgpa.org/planning-development/pages/zoning-information.
