The New Year’s weekend got an early start at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, with the Dec. 29 edition of Winter Lights Late-Night Thursdays.
“New Year’s Cheer” was the theme as the doors stayed open late for guests to enjoy the annual holiday-season illumination of the museum’s exterior and indoor activities including an art scavenger hunt and photo and craft stations.
They also were offered a glass of champagne or sparkling cider to toast the advent of 2023 — and perhaps to get in the mood for more partying to come.
Teresa Whitacre of Greensburg was planning to check out the New Year’s Eve festivities at Live! Casino Pittsburgh at Westmoreland Mall.
Steve Clark and Scott Smith, both of Scottdale, intended to ring in the New Year with friends.
Robin and Barbara Grote of Latrobe were thinking of taking in a movie.
Jeff Lyon of Greensburg and his mother, Pat Lyon, who was visiting from Los Angeles, figured to skip the hoopla all together.
“We’ll get to bed early,” Jeff Lyon said. “My wife and I haven’t seen the ball drop in 15 or 16 years.”
“Maybe we’ll make stuffed cabbage,” Pat Lyon said.
“As long as we’re done by 10,” her son countered.
The museum’s gallery host, Nicole Brown, and weekend building supervisor, Brian Ruff, agreed that staying home and turning in early was “the best plan ever.”
Winter Lights Late-Night Thursdays continue weekly through Jan. 26, with a different theme for each gathering.
