An overnight closure of the Pennsylvania Turnpike is set to begin at 11 p.m. Saturday, for eastbound traffic traveling between the New Stanton and Breezewood interchanges.

The closure is slated to continue until 5 a.m. Sunday to allow crews to conduct center-line pavement patching.

During the six-hour closure, motorists will be allowed to enter the turnpike at the Somerset or Bedford interchanges and travel east.

The closure is subject to favorable weather conditions for the road work.

For eastbound motorists exiting at the New Stanton interchange, turnpike officials are recommending the following 127-mile detour: North on Route 119 and Pennsylvania Turnpike Route 66; east on Route 22; south on Interstate 99; east on Route 30; re-enter the turnpike mainline at the Breezewood interchange.

Message boards will be in place to alert motorists about the closure. Officials advised travelers to expect heavier traffic on roads used by detouring motorists.
