Pennsylvania had another record day in terms of covid cases Tuesday. With the amount of new cases reported this week, the state amassed a three-day case total not seen since late September.
Cases
The state saw its third consecutive day of less than 1,000 new covid cases, according to state Department of Health data. On Tuesday, Pennsylvania reported 906 cases (507 confirmed, 399 probable), marking the first time in eight months that had happened. The state’s seven-day covid case average (1,232) is the lowest since early October. Total cases are now 1,197,468 in Pennsylvania.
The Allegheny County Health Department reported 62 additional covid-19 cases in the county Tuesday, of which 22 are confirmed and 40 are probable. New cases ranged in age from 2 to 82, with a median age of 34, per the county Health Department. The seven-day case average (88) is the lowest since mid-October. Total cases in Allegheny County are 100,984.
An additional 25 cases (seven confirmed, 18 probable) were reported in Westmoreland County. The seven-day case average (36) is the lowest for the county since early October. Total cases in the county are now 33,989.
Deaths
Pennsylvania reported 42 additional covid deaths Tuesday, per the state Department of Health. Of those deaths, 40 are from May and two are from April. Total deaths in the state are now 27,085.
Four new deaths were reported in Allegheny County from an import of data by the state from the Electronic Death Reporting System, according to the county Health Department. Ages of the deceased were: one person in their 40s, one person in their 50s and two people in their 70s. Dates of the deaths ranged from May 11 to Saturday. There have now been 1,939 covid-related deaths reported in Allegheny County.
Westmoreland County added one death to its total, bringing it up to 763. There have been 20 covid-related deaths reported in the county to this point in May.
Hospitalizations
Covid hospitalizations continued to decrease in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, as 1,186 patients were hospitalized. The state has seen a decrease in the current hospitalization total in 23 of 25 days in May so far, dropping by nearly 1,100 since the month began. Hospitalizations have dropped by 48% over the course of the month.
Allegheny County’s hospitalization count went down for the second consecutive day, with 108 hospitalized on Tuesday. The county has seen a decrease in hospitalizations in five of the past seven days.
Conversely, Westmoreland County has seen its covid hospitalization total go up or stay the same the past three days. As of Tuesday, there were 26 people hospitalized for covid-related issues in the county.
Vaccinations
There are now 7,278,884 people with at least one does of a covid vaccine and 5,353,652 people fully vaccinated in the state, according to the latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That represents 56.9% and 41.8% of the population, respectively. In terms of adults, Pennsylvania has 7,075,367 people with one shot and 5,297,248 fully vaccinated, which comes out to 69.6% and 52.1%, respectively.
In Allegheny County, 43.7% of the county is fully vaccinated and 60% of the county has at least one dose as of Tuesday. There are 534,289 individuals fully vaccinated and another 199,760 partially vaccinated.
A total of 132,784 people are fully vaccinated (36.4%) and another 35,680 people have at least one dose in Westmoreland County.
